Empowering Hungarian and Serbian Cultural Scenes for Sustainable Tourism in Public Green Spaces

The project will enhance the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation thanks to the implementation of altogether 19 jointly organized innovative cultural and educational activities. The project will directly empower and train diverse 20 young culture managers and artists (10 form Serbia and 10 form Hungary) to create innovative, contemporary public culture events in public green spaces (PGS) by implementing 4 trainings and 2 study visits and enabling them to organize 4 innovative festivals. In addition to this, 4 artistic residences will be organized in Serbia and Hungary aiming young artists working in the field of site specific art connected to nature (land art, bio art, bio music, installations, gastronomy, contemporary circus etc.). The result of these residences will be directly connected to the festivals and therefore contribute to its innovative and inclusive character. The final result of these activities is organizing 4 innovative, multidisciplinary festivals in bordering cities and towns presenting contemporary art achievements and actively involving communities. The festivals will reflect four main principles which will be deeply studied during training, study visits and artistic residences: inclusion, innovation, sustainability and environment protection. The 3 day long festivals will attract around 50 000 people of diverse gender, background, and age therefore contribute to creation of a competitive and socially inclusive tourism offer. The final closing conference as well as “Manual for organizing events in PGS” will present the project results and main findings and showcase new ways of innovative and sustainable cultural cooperation in order to better promote the region and increase the number of tourists in the region.

The project's expected objective is to strengthen cooperation and capacities of cross border cultural scenes in order to develop innovative, sustainable tourism offerings and enhance the active and environmentally-wise use of PGS by both foreign and local inhabitants. In order to achieve this objective the project will be divided into two phases - first phase will have focus on selection of participants (2 promo events), education (4 trainings) and preparation (2 study visits and 4 artistic residences) while the second phase will be focused on implementation of the 4 festivals and one conference. The first output will be to form a regional network of young managers and artists which will be formed by implementing first phase activities, co-ordinately organized in both countries. This network will be the core power of the project which will have the task to create 4 festivals in Serbia and Hungary within the period of 1 year. The main target group for this network will be 20 cultural managers and 16 artists who will be trained in planning and managing festivals, using innovative, participative and environmentally friendly approaches and artworks. The selection of the culture managers will be organized through an open call promoted within 2 promotional events on both sides of the border. The priority in selecting participants will be given to young people from the bordering territories, as well as to disadvantaged groups such as women, sexual and ethnic minorities, young people coming from rural areas, young people with disabilities etc. After the training the group will: participate in 2 study visits in both countries in order to map green areas, prepare the program of the festivals, participate in selection of artists for the 4 two week residences and coordinate implementation of the festival. The main final output of these activities will be 4 three-day long festivals as well as the final publication “Manual for Organizing Events in Green Spaces”. The festivals will follow the ecological and sustainable principles with a highly participatory and inclusive approach, tending to attract young people, but also families and elderly people. In the program sense they will include contemporary artworks along green areas, movie screenings, concerts, gastronomy try-outs, workshops, family activations and similar. The program will be created so that it reflects cultural exchange of artists and artworks from both countries. The final two-day conference will be held with the aim to present best practices but also challenges in creating unique, innovative and sustainable touristic offers for the region. It will be held in Serbia and include panels, presentations, workshops, and an art showcase of at least 20 international and local professionals for the 100 participants
